The technology promises to revolutionise reading and to cause a paradigm shift in creative writing. The Daily Wanderer, 30/02/2045 Invented by the [[..:setting:alusia|Alusia Foundation]], the Bookworm allows groups of people to see, hear and even interact with what they would otherwise be reading about. Now anyone can talk to the characters of their favourite novel, experience pivotal moments of the past through history books or prototype a schematic without any assembly required. Furthermore, the Bookworm is capable of recording and printing out these sessions. This enables multiple authors to embody their characters and act out the plot to generate believable stories, in a novel technique called Live Action Role-Play™. These fully-immersive experiences, described by Alusia as "the greatest technological marvel of the century", are expected to kickstart a wave of development in the ways the world consumes and creates media, and possibly even more! The user experience of the Bookworm is straightforward. Specially-trained professionals load the book into a Bookworm terminal and all participants sit down in the provided chairs. Once the source material has been processed, the participants can put on the bespoke Bookworm helmets. These helmets serve a dual purpose, removing sensations from the outside world and relaying signals between the Bookworm and the human brain. Inside the simulation, the participants have the ability to interact with the world and each other, or exit at any time. Even once all participants exit, the simulation keeps running and continues generating its Story to slowly print out an [[..:system:downtimes_turnsheets#epilogues|Epilogue]]. ====== The Exhibition ====== > In honour of this invention, the Alusia Foundation is opening its doors to members of the public for an experience with a Bookworm. Only three Stories would be available per day, so places are limited! For a chance to be one of these lucky few, fill out the form below. Individuals may enter as many times as possible, but the entry fee will be charged each time. The Daily Wanderer, 30/02/2045 The Exhibition is a week long conference hosted by Alusia which will be the first time anyone not associated with the company will have had the opportunity to try out using a Bookworm. The events of //Reference II// are the events of this Exhibition, with the [[..:gameplay:pcs|player characters]] being the attendees of the conference. Tickets to the Exhibition were given out through a newspaper competition. To some, this competition seemed like nothing more than a cynical cash-grab, but to many this brought hope. People entered the competition for a wide variety of reasons. Some were drawn in by excitement about the possibilities the Bookworm has opened up for the future. For others, the news brought economic opportunities, through investments or through a wave of new jobs in manufacturing. The opportunity to go to the world-renowned [[..:setting:alusia#the_library|library]] at the Alusia Foundation has sweetened the deal for some people. Regardless of the reasons people had, only a lucky few were able to get their hands on a ticket. setting/bookworm.txt Last modified: 2026/07/04 18:21by gm_izzy
