======Quirks======
Quirks help to define your character and customise your gameplay experience. Although some might seem more beneficial mechanically, Quirks do not necessarily convey strict advantages or disadvantages. You should choose Quirks that fit the themes you want to engage with, and the way you want to play the game.\\

Quirks are split into two categories: Story and Playstyle. Story Quirks will affect specific ways in which your character experiences Stories and Playstyle Quirks are a way of letting us know how you, OC, want to engage with the game.\\

Each Quirk can only be taken once.
====Story Quirks====
You may select up to 2 Story Quirks. You may take each Quirk only once. Story Quirks may be taken into account when GMs write Epilogues, but will likely have a greater impact on your character's actions in Uptimes.

**All Eyes on Me:** You find it hard to blend into the background of Stories, NPCs within Stories often seem enigmatically drawn to you for better or for worse.\\
//This quirk cannot be taken alongside **One of the Locals**//.

**One of the Locals:** Stories feel very familiar to you and you blend in well, In-Story NPCs might even believe they recognise you.\\
//This quirk cannot be taken alongside **All Eyes on Me**//.

**Ain't From Round Here:** Occasionally your character might find themself loading in with elements from a Story different to the one they entered, such as an aspect of their appearance, or an object that they load in with.

**Preformed Opinions:** In some Stories, your character might be automatically loved or hated by In-Story NPCs as soon as they meet them. For example, in a superhero Story, your character could load in as a minion of the villain. 

**Quick Learner:** Sometimes upon entering a Story you will be hit with a complete understanding of the original text, and where the original story is meant to go, even for a book you have never read before; what your character does with this knowledge is in your hands. Please note that this Quirk involves a loss of agency, so we recommend taking the Mindbender Playstyle Quirk if you wish to take this Quirk.

**Technical Difficulties:** Occasionally when loading into a Story, wires get crossed and something goes wrong. For example, your character might find themself clipping through walls or speaking to an NPC that no-one else can see.  \\

**Let's Go Gambling!:** Your character's fortunes when loading into Stories tend towards the extremes -- both good and bad. For example, your character may begin a Story in a luxury castle, or find themself inside an active volcano.

**Metamorphosis:** Your character's physical In-Story appearance may change at any point in the Story. These changes may be minimal, or as extreme as a complete change in species.

=====Playstyle Quirks=====
There is no limit to the number of Playstyle Quirks you can take, you should take these Quirks based on your OC comfort level surrounding these themes. You can change your Playstyle Quirks at any point in the game. To do so, please email the [[gm@referenceii.oxfordrpg.com|GMs]] or, preferably, message us on Discord. Note: **//Reference II// will not have the option for romance between PCs and NPCs**.

**Mindbender:** By taking this Quirk, you consent to your character and you (the player) potentially suffering direct loss of agency In-Story, beyond the regular effects of the Bookworm. Examples of this loss of agency include directed speech and controlled actions. Out-of-Story loss of agency will not occur for PCs. If there is a specific type of loss of agency you would like to opt-out of, please speak to the [[gms_crew|GMs]].
 
**Boot Me Out:** By taking this Quirk, you consent to your character being removed from a Story by an Out-of-Story party, such as the Alusia Foundation's technician. OC, this will consist of a GM manually changing your Discord roles. Your character will be able to re-enter the Story (or any other Story) immediately after being removed from it, but may not be loaded in as the same character In-Story. Please let us know if you would like to receive an OC warning before this occurs, or if you would prefer the GMs changed your roles without warning.
