====== Use of Discord in Reference II ====== This page covers specific information on how Discord will be used in //Reference II//, in ways that may differ from other ORPGSoc online Society Games. For information on Discord usage in online Society Games in general, see Intro to Discord Games. ===== Server Profiles ===== We request that players of //Reference II// change their per-server nickname in the Reference II server to the format: > IC name (IC pronouns) [OC name (OC pronouns)] This will ensure that it is clear who is saying the messages, regardless of whether this is being done IC or OC. ===== Discord Roles ===== //Reference II// will have roles to denote the involvement members of the server have with the game. This will include a GM role, a Crew role and a Player role, as well as other roles that the GMs decide would be helpful. These roles will be distinct colours, to make it easier to identify quickly who is who. These will be the only roles on the //Reference II// server which are assigned a colour, to make this identification easier. During Uptimes, the IC interactions of entering and exiting of Stories via the Bookworm will be handled OC via Discord roles. Each Story will have a unique collection of IC channels associated with it. In order to be able to see and send messages to these IC channels, players will need to have the role associated with that Story. Role management for Story roles will be done via the YAGPDB.xyz Discord bot. See below for more information on how this will work. ===== Bots In The Server ===== These are the Discord bots which are currently planned for use in //Reference II//. More Discord bots may be added during the course of the game, should they become necessary. ==== YAGPDB ==== YAGPDB.xyz is a general purpose bot which //Reference II// will be using for assigning and managing the Discord roles associated with Stories. When set up, there will be a message saying which emoji corresponds to which Story. Reacting to this message with one of the emojis will make YAGPDB give you the role for that Story. See the #YAGPDB-Demonstration channel and the bot playground channels in the //Reference II// Discord server for an interactive example. During //Reference II//, this will look something like the following: To begin with, you will be able to see the channels associated with the Out-of-Story world, and the #bookworm-control-panel, which will contain a message detailing how to obtain the roles for a particular Story. Reacting with the appropriate reaction will make YAGPDB assign you the associated role, letting you enter the Story and see the channels associated with that, though you will no longer be able to see the Out-of-Story uptime channels. Removing the reaction will bring you back to the original state of seeing the Out-of-Story channels. **Note**: YAGPDB.xyz will be set up to only allow you to have one of the roles at a time. If you use more than one of the reactions simultaneously, you will be given the role for whichever you reacted with most recently. To switch back to a previous role, you will need to unreact and re-react, which can be unintuitive. We recommend you try to only have reacted for one role at a time so that this is never an issue. ==== PluralKit ==== PluralKit is a Discord bot which lets you send messages from proxies -- making it seem like your messages are coming from different Discord profiles. In //Reference II//, players are expected not to use PluralKit, since they should only be messaging as one character, and this should already be noted by the player's server profile. GMs and Crew in //Reference II// will be using PluralKits for NPCs, and the PluralKit proxies will have nicknames in the format: > NPC name (NPC pronouns) | GM (GM's OC name) or > NPC name (NPC pronouns) | Crew (Crew's OC name) so that it is clear which GM or Crew member is being interacted with. A message from a PluralKit proxy will appear like any other Discord message, though it will have "APP" in blue highlight next to the name of the sender, such as in the following screenshot. Replying to a message from a PluralKit proxy will not notify the original sender. Instead, reacting to the proxied message with a :Bell: emoji will notify the sender. If you do not notify a GM when replying to them, they may miss your message, so please remember to do this to get our attention.
