====== A Family of Dinosaurs ====== Perry was alone, lost and afraid. She knew wandering out alone was a bad idea. But it was her only option after the predators had taken over her patch of grass. She had to run from them to avoid being eaten. The problem is, when you’re frantically running from predators, you lose your way home quicker than you think. And Perry didn’t exactly have the best memory ever. What’s worse, is Perry’s egg was in her nest. If the predators got to it, it would never… All Perry could think to do was walk, and hope. If she could just keep herself out of danger, this path would surely lead to her nest… Noise. It’s sudden, and it’s loud. First a squeak, then a roar, and a shriek. These are dinosaurs, but it’s hard to tell what kinds. Maybe if the dinosaurs are herbivores, they’ll be able to help her. So she takes the risk and follows the noise. She gets closer, stopping in awe when she sees the source of the noise. It’s a group of three dinosaurs: Pterry the pterosaur, a velociraptor and Braeburn the alamosaurus who smells like apples. The group seem to be shouting at Braeburn about how tall he is. Perry explains that she needs to go and retrieve her egg. However, the raptor is nervous about the predators that took over the nest in the first place. So, the group decide that Pterry should fly above the nest and see what the situation is before they approach. Pterry soars into the air, climbing higher and higher, until he suddenly begins to fall, fast. Really fast. There’s a crash. The group are frantic, until they are approached and comforted by an ankylosaurus, Pterry II. The group continue their journey until they are blocked by a river surrounded by quicksand. They start to sink. They don’t know what to do, and ... Braeburn is in the centre of the river. He is strong enough to resist the current and heroically uses himself as a bridge for the raptor to cross the river. Perry and Pterry II walk into the river to cross it, but only Perry can swim. Pterry II sinks to the floor of the river, never to be seen again. And as Pterry II sinks, Pterry III appears at the other end of the river. This Spinosaurus spooks Perry, and she sprints away reaching her nest where she meets a T-Rex, Tyranus. But before he eats her, the gathering appear and fight back, exploiting Tyranus' confusion at prey introducing itself to convince him that the creatures in the forest will be tastier. Perry reaches her egg. They are safe. The group celebrate, and Perry hugs her egg tightly. ---- A loud roar can be heard throughout the forest, the famous shout of Tyranus Rex, “PTERRY III!”, “PTERRY III WHERE ARE YOU?!”, “PTERRY III DO YOU WANT TO GO HUNTING TOGETHER?!” such calls were commonplace and had been for a long time now. Even before receiving a reply the T-Rex makes its way down to the river where the Spinosaurus would inevitably be waiting. The river glistened with the reflection of the two dinosaurs, only faltering when one of them dove under the surface and emerged with a meal. “You know” the T-Rex says between bites of ammonite “I’m so glad I took over Perry’s nest”, “I’m so glad you folks introduced yourselves when you did, even the weird apple smelling one which I was never gonna eat.” Tyranus believes himself to be perfectly understood, even if his messages aren’t the clearest. “You're welcome?” the Spinosaurus replies. With an intentional gesture, the T-Rex shifts its food onto the Spinosaurus’ ‘plate’ and saunters off into the forest returning after long enough with a mouthful of very ripe looking fruit. “I thought the little one might enjoy it, the crocodiles assured me it was quality stuff” as he looks at Pterry III with a confusing expression of pride and self-questioning which most would see as threatening, but to the fellow carnivore, teeth are just a smile. Two carnivores with bellies full head back up the well-trodden path from the river to Perry’s nest, but the expected sight of a little Parasaurolophus with 5 roars is nowhere to be found. ---- Terry was alone, lost and afraid. His mother had told him that wandering out alone was a bad idea. But the fresh grass over the river was so tempting… and there was so much of it… The problem is, when you go the extra mile for nice grass, you lose your way home quicker than you think. And Terry didn’t exactly have the best memory ever. What’s worse, is Terry’s mother was waiting for him in their nest. If she realised he was missing… All Terry could think to do was walk, and hope. If he could just keep himself out of danger, this path would surely lead to his nest… Noise. It’s sudden, and it’s loud. First a squeak, then a roar, and… a sales pitch? He breathes a sigh of relief. It’s Uncle Pterry, Uncle Braeburn and Auntie Raptor. Terry squeaks and runs towards them. “What are you doing out here alone?” The raptor is shocked. Pterry III laughs. “You’re just like your mother”. “Come on little fella, let’s get you home.” Braeburn lowers his tail so that Terry can climb on his back. And so the gathering walk back to Terry’s nest, where they find Perry, panicked. Braeburn lowers his head to reveal Terry sat on top of it, waving at Perry. “I’m here Mama!” Terry runs towards his mother and hugs her. “You guys are quite something, you know?” Perry chuckles. “Thanks again. I keep telling him that wandering off is a bad idea, but this little man refuses to listen…” The group laugh together. This isn’t the first time Terry has gotten lost, and it won’t be the last. The little Parasaurolophus is constantly needing saving from one thing or another… But that’s what family’s for. And despite their differences, these dinosaurs are family.
